The Green Plan 2025-2028 is aligned to the nine key focus areas within the NHS England Green Plan Guidance.

To ensure there is equal importance placed on biodiversity and nature, we have added this as a tenth focus area.

Objectives for the next three years, and how we apply the SMART methodology

For each area of focus, we have provided descriptions of what they entail and information on where we currently are and where we intend to be.

We have also developed an objective for each area of focus to define the progress that we intend to make in the next 3 years.

We have applied SMART methodology (please see below) to each of the 9 objectives to ensure we effectively can gauge progress and priorities:

  • Specific – what is the objective?
  • Measurable – an increase or reduction by amount or percentage, or a change in behaviour
  • Assignable – can this be assigned to a team or individual
  • Realistic – the objective must be achievable in the current environment, what challenges could impact progress
  • Time – when will the objective be achieved

See the SMART objectives for each of our 10 focus areas.
