Two midwives from Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been honoured with national awards for their leadership and passion and commitment for midwifery.
Emma Fleary and Viv Dolby received silver awards from NHS England’s Chief Midwifery Officer, Kate Brintworth, in a surprise presentation at Bradford Royal Infirmary’s Maternity Unit.
Chief Nurse at the Trust, Karen Dawber, said:
I’m so proud that two of our fantastic midwives have been recognised in this way. Chief Midwifery Officer Awards honour colleagues who give their best, day in, day out and have a lasting impact on the teams around them and, most importantly, the care we provide to mums and babies.
Kate Brintworth was visiting the Maternity Unit to find out more about the work of the Trust’s Maternity and Neonatal teams.
Unbeknown to Specialist Midwife for Pastoral Support, Emma, and Research Midwife, Viv, they had been nominated for awards by their senior leaders.
Emma’s citation praised her for ‘empowering staff and being an inspirational mentor to others, leading recruitment initiatives and helping to improve staff morale and wellbeing’.
Viv, who has been a midwife for 50 years and is now based at the Bradford Institute for Health Research (BIHR), was nominated for being ‘a trailblazer, mentor and a true leader, helping to develop the next generation of midwifery leaders’.
Director of Midwifery, Sara Hollins, said:
Emma is a highly motivated, compassionate midwife who has contributed significantly to the recruitment and retention of early career midwives, and the pastoral and wellbeing support of midwives at the Trust.
Research Matron, Jennifer Syson, described Viv as
a passionate advocate for women who has made a huge impact on countless families and colleagues. She has increased the opportunity for women to take part in research.
