Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is making parking simpler, fairer and more efficient, providing a better experience for patients, colleagues and visitors.
The new parking system, which goes live for the public on Monday, 18 August at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) uses the latest automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology.
It will improve parking by making it:
- Simpler – ANPR will make it simpler to manage vehicle access and flow.
- Fairer – entry and exit barriers will make it fairer, ensuring patients and visitors only pay for the parking they use.
- Efficient – maximising space and better use of technology will make it more efficient and easier to find a parking space.
Director of Estates and Facilities, David Moss said:
We get a lot of feedback about parking at our two main hospital sites so we want to make it easier for patients and visitors to know where they can park.
The new system will also be fairer, as people will only pay for the parking they use, rather than having to buy a more expensive ticket because they’re not sure how long they’re going to be there.
The patient and visitor car parks will be pay on exit, where you pay for your parking upon returning to your car. The first 20 minutes for patients and visitors will be free.
All current patient concessionary arrangements will remain in place, and Blue Badge holders will continue to park for free in accessible areas.
There will be upgraded pay stations with cash and electronic payment options, and the option to pay on exit where barriers are present. Penalty charge notices (PCNs) will now be outsourced and enforced by an external partner. Parking charges will remain the same and continue to be reviewed periodically.
The Trust will also be changing car parking for staff at the same time with barrier entrance to staff car parks and ANPR.
Dates for introduction of the same car parking changes at St Luke’s Hospital will be announced soon.
