This week we hear about the crucial work of the Transfusion Practitioner team that makes sure every unit of blood we use in our hospitals is safe, traceable and ready when it’s needed most.
In Bradford we use about 12,000 units of blood and blood components a year. Some patients in Bradford have conditions such as sickle cell anaemia, thalassaemia and other rare anaemias, and they rely on blood transfusions to keep them alive.
The team’s commitment to improvement and innovation has seen a major upgrade to its system this year with the introduction of new electronic HaemoBank fridges, which have transformed the team’s work and the lives that depend on it.
