Born in Leicestershire in 1957, Tim is a graduate of Leicester University. He worked in engineering research for 11 years before moving to West Yorkshire for a role in the voluntary and political sector. He was the Chief Executive of Age Concern Calderdale (and then Calderdale and Kirklees) for 17 years before taking up a full-time role as Leader of Calderdale Council in 2012, a position he held until May 2023. He was the inaugural chair of the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, a position he continues to hold.
Tim’s wife, Megan, who was also a long-serving councillor, died earlier this year after a long period of ill health. Tim and Megan have a son, daughter and two granddaughters. Tim was awarded an MBE in 2018 for public and political service, He is particularly associated with the successful regeneration of Halifax’s unique Piece Hall, the only surviving textile hall in Western Europe.
