Introduction to cardiac rhythm management

Welcome to our patient information site to support patients who have implantable cardiac devices such as pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and loop recorders.

Who we are and what do we do?

In clinic you will meet Cardiac Physiologists who will perform your device check. They may be assisted by a student physiologist who is training and an associate practitioner who will assist and explain the home monitoring service.

At each check we will check the implant site to ensure it has healed well and is healthy. You will be asked a few questions about your health in relation to the pacemaker since you were last seen in clinic, and we may ask you for a list of your medications.

A full device check will be performed and any reprograming required will be done. If you have had any therapies from your device we may ask a doctor to review your medication.

Where are we based and how to get in contact?

We are based in the Cardio-Respiratory Department on level zero at Bradford Royal Infirmary. Please follow the signs from the main entrance.

The main department phone number is 01274 364073.
We are open from 08 30 – 16 30 Monday – Friday.

What is the order in which things happen?

What do I do if I can’t attend?

If you are unable to attend for your implant appointment please call the day case unit on 01274 383191. We have a waiting list for procedures so you may have to wait several weeks until another slot becomes available. This will increase the time you are unable to drive if you have been told not to do so.

If you are unable to attend your follow-up appointment please call 01274 364073 to reschedule. You may have to wait several weeks for another appointment due to fully booked clinics.

Repeated failure to attend with no explanation will result in discharge from the clinic and no further appointments being sent.
