Cancer and its treatment may affect you emotionally in many ways and there is no right or wrong way to react or feel.

It is natural to have feelings including uncertainty, sadness, worry or anger (amongst many more). It may be helpful to talk about your feelings with someone close to you and try to continue to do things that you enjoy and are important to you. Sometimes, emotions and difficult thoughts can become overwhelming and feel unmanageable. They may start to affect relationships and day to day life. Here is a video from Cancer Research UK about other people’s experience of their emotional wellbeing during cancer.

You may find that you’d like additional support to help navigate these overwhelming thoughts and emotions. The Cancer Psychology team in Bradford is a specialist service that can provide talking therapy to help people manage the emotional impact of their cancer diagnosis, treatment, or life after treatment. The team offers 1:1 therapy and may refer to other services to provide support for other concerns.

You can find out more about the Cancer Psychology service by asking your cancer healthcare team, or GP, who can make a referral for you.
