
A Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust specialist has been nominated for a national award.
Lead Renal Dietitian, Paul Bailey, has been shortlisted for the ‘Clinical Professional of the Year’ category after being nominated by his colleagues from the Nutrition and Dietetics department at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Clinical Nutrition (CN) Awards – organised by CN Magazine – recognise the achievements of those whose great work has made a significant difference within the nutrition industry.
The awards, launched in 2010, acknowledge achievements in various categories, including social media, clinical nutrition, and new product development
Specialist Renal Dietitian, Alannah Ragan, is one of Paul’s colleagues who nominated. She described Paul as “a very supportive manager, who truly looks after his team.”
Renal Dietitian, James Eastwood, added: “Paul is an exceptional leader who consistently demonstrates dedication, innovation and a commitment to improving patient care.
“His passion for service development is evident in the multiple projects he is spearheading to secure additional funding and enhance the quality of dietetic care.”
Paul was also praised for “constantly striving for improvement, collaborating with the Trust’s multidisciplinary teams to drive innovation and ensure that dietitians play a vital role in patient outcomes.”
Renal Dietitian, Mitchell Saeid, continued: “Paul goes ‘above and beyond’ to develop the renal dietitian service. He embodies a ‘patient-centred’ approach and fosters a positive culture within the team in which professional development is encouraged.”
While Specialist renal Dietitian, Ryan Kinsella, concluded: “I am delighted to nominate Paul for his exceptional dedication, leadership, and innovation in renal dietetics. His compassionate approach extends beyond clinical duties; he takes time to educate patients, helping them navigate the complexities of renal diets with clarity and empathy.”
Paul joined the Trust, which operates Bradford Royal Infirmary, St Luke’s Hospital and the district’s community hospitals, in 2019.
As lead dietitian for the renal team, he maintains strong working relationships with the consultants, as well as being responsible for updating Trust policies for the likes of bariatric patients with chronic kidney disease.
