A Bradford doctor has won a prestigious national award recognising his ‘exceptional contributions’ to resident doctor training.
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Jivendra (Jiv) Gosai, received the “Best UK Trainer of the Year Award” for EP and devices training from the British Junior Cardiologists’ Association (BJCA).
Dr Gosai said:
I’m truly honoured to receive this award in recognition of the time and dedication of the entire Cardiology and ‘Cath Lab’ team here at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
I look forward to building on this together as a team to continue to improve the training of cardiology staff in the region.
Resident cardiology doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) rank hospitals on their overall training experience as part of a survey, with a split between what are classes as ‘district general hospitals’ and ‘tertiary’ or ‘regional’ centres. The BRI was ranked second in the UK ‘district general hospitals’ category for cardiology training.
Cardiology Registrar at Bradford Royal Infirmary, Dr Michael Drozd said:
This national recognition awarded at this month’s British Cardiovascular Society Annual Conference celebrates Dr Gosai’s outstanding dedication to training the next generation of cardiologists.
He consistently goes above and beyond to create supportive, high-quality learning environments for trainees.
Dr Gosai serves as the Training Programme Director where he oversees the cardiology training programme in West Yorkshire, ensuring that trainees receive the necessary knowledge and skills to become competent cardiologists. He also sits on the national Cardiology specialty advisory committee.
He has extensive experience in medical education, curriculum design, and simulation-based learning, as evidenced by his MD on simulation-based learning in medical training and his master’s degree in education. He is also a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
The Trust’s Clinical Scientist and Head of Cardiac Diagnostics, Joanne Ashton, commented:
Dr Gosai is an avid supporter of anything to do with training and developing staff, including his multidisciplinary colleagues.
This award recognises his contribution to resident doctors training but is also a reflection of all the hard work that he puts into supporting other staff as well – especially healthcare science colleagues.
In addition to his clinical role, Dr Gosai’s interests are in curriculum design, qualitative and quantitative research in medical education and human factors.
Bradford Teaching Hospitals Chief Medical Officer, Dr John Bolton concluded:
We are very proud to see Dr Gosai recognised nationally in this way. His dedication to developing the next generation of cardiologists exemplifies the kind of clinical leadership that transforms patient care. We’re proud to foster this culture of learning and excellence across Bradford Teaching Hospitals.
