• Hundreds of NHS staff across West Yorkshire take on 24-Hour Therapy Dash

More than 200 NHS staff from across West Yorkshire will run, row and cycle non-stop for 24 hours on 18 September to raise money for local hospital charities.

The 24-Hour Therapy Dash began at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2025 and has since grown into a region-wide challenge, with NHS colleagues across West Yorkshire committing to keep moving for charity.

This year, teams from Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust will take part, raising money for their respective hospital charities.

Hospital charities fund projects that go above and beyond NHS funding to enhance patient care, including specialist equipment, research, improvements to hospital environments and extra support for patients and their loved ones.

The challenge was founded by Lisa Capewell, Physiotherapy Spinal Team Leader at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Alongside 60 colleagues, Lisa raised more than £4,000 for Bradford Hospitals Charity last year.

    Lisa said:

Last year’s Therapy Dash showed what can be achieved when NHS colleagues come together for a good cause. We raised an incredible amount for Bradford Hospitals Charity while promoting the importance of keeping active.

This year, I wanted the 24-Hour Therapy Dash to be bigger than ever, and I’m delighted that so many dedicated colleagues from across West Yorkshire have chosen to get involved. This is just the start; I aim to get this nation-wide next year.

In 2025, the Bradford team collectively travelled over 1030 kilometres (640 miles) during the challenge, the equivalent straight-line distance from Bradford to Berlin. With more than three times as many participants involved this year, the teams are hoping to cover an even greater distance.

Laura Riach, Director of Bradford Hospitals Charity, said:

I’m blown away by Lisa, and everyone involved in organising and participating in something of this scale. For these therapists and their colleagues, caring doesn’t end when they clock off. They are committed to improving health and wellbeing both inside and outside the workplace.

The money raised will help hospital charities across West Yorkshire fund projects that make a real difference for patients, families and staff.
