Anaesthetists at Bradford Teaching Hospitals have once again been recognised for delivering outstanding patient care after successfully achieving re-accreditation from the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA).
Following a rigorous review process, the Trust’s anaesthesia service has retained its Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) — a national quality mark awarded to departments that consistently meet the highest standards of patient safety, clinical leadership and patient experience.
The re-accreditation follows a second formal ACSA visit last year and confirms that the service continues to deliver safe, high-quality anaesthetic care across all specialties.
Only a small proportion of UK anaesthesia services have achieved full ACSA accreditation, and even fewer have sustained that award through successful re-accreditation — highlighting the rigour of the process and the quality of care our team delivers.
Dr Simon Cousins, Consultant Anaesthetist and ACSA Lead at Bradford Teaching Hospitals, said:“This re-accreditation is a fantastic achievement for the whole anaesthesia team and reflects the professionalism, commitment and teamwork shown across the service every day.
“ACSA is not a one-off exercise – it requires us to continually demonstrate improvement and responsiveness to new standards. We’re incredibly proud that our work has once again been recognised at a national level.”
The Royal College of Anaesthetists provided highly positive feedback following the visit, highlighting the strength of clinical leadership, staff engagement and the Trust’s ongoing focus on improving patient experience and safety.
Chief Medical Officer at Bradford Teaching Hospitals, John Bolton, said:“Maintaining ACSA accreditation is a significant achievement and a strong endorsement of the quality of care our patients receive.
“It reflects sustained hard work across anaesthesia, theatres and our wider peri-operative teams, and gives further assurance to patients and the public that services are being delivered to the highest national standards.”
Dr Chris Till, representing The Royal College of Anaesthetists, formally presented the Trust with its ACSA re-accreditation plaques at an event on 10 July 2026.
