A member of the portering team at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) is in the running for a prestigious national award thanks to the ‘outstanding contribution’ he makes to patient experience.
Mo Jawad was nominated for a MyPorter Award by Head of Portering at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sharon Craggs for taking on and excelling at a new role – resource allocator, and he has now reached the shortlist.
The new role, introduced in 2024, ensures that the Portering team are allocated to patient and non-patient transfers in the most efficient and effective way to support outstanding patient experience.
In her nomination, Sharon said: “Mo has really taken the role and owned it: his allocation decisions contribute to outstanding patient experience every day. He has used both his IT and communication skills to develop the role and begin to document data that supports the development of the team which in turn improves the patient experience.
“Coming from his role as a porter, Mo has an excellent understanding of our hospital sites layout, this knowledge is invaluable to be able to allocate transfers in the most effective way. Mo has built excellent working relationships with his porter colleagues, understanding the way they work to get the best from the team.
“To further contribute to patient experience, Mo has built excellent relationships with our clinical colleagues, whom he speaks with regularly to understand individual patient’s requirement. He is also flexible and continues to pick up any available shifts as a porter, so he continues to work directly with patients.”
More than 500 people were nominated for across the country and beyond, with only a select view made it to the shortlist of the awards’ four categories.
Bradford Teaching Hospitals porters have been celebrated on the national stage before with a win for a Portering colleague, Laura Ward, at the same awards last year.
The MyPorter Awards ceremony take place at the Metropolitan Hotel in Leeds on 3 March, and we wish Mo good luck in the outstanding contribution to patient experience award.
