Pacemaker

An implantable defibrillator, which monitors the heart rate and if it detects a fast dangerous heart rhythm and will attempt to rectify it. A reminder of the benefits:

  • The procedure for the surgical implantation
  • Risks of shocks delivered by the device
  • Further surgical intervention for generator changes

Loop recorder (for monitoring)

An implantable loop recorder, which monitors the heart rate and records any slow or fast episodes. It also helps you to record your symptoms. A reminder of the benefits:

  • Gives the understanding of what is causing heart problems and their symptoms
  • Remotely provides this feedback without lots of trips to the hospital
  • Common and safe procedure

Being aware of any chance of side effects, however small:

  • Having a sense that the device has moved a bit and feels uncomfortable
  • Possible bruising for a few days after
