Urdu Phrases
Welcome to our Urdu learning files for labour ward. We hope that these files will allow you to learn some basic Urdu to help you to communicate better with Urdu-speaking patients and families.
There are several different resources which are designed to be used together.
The audio files are MP3 files which you can download onto your own computer and either burn onto CD or transfer onto an MP3 player for use when you are away from home. Once this site is complete, the audio files will be divided into “Beginner Urdu Phrases” and “Further Urdu Phrases”. Under “Beginner Urdu Phrases”, you will find the shorter phrases which are probably best to learn first. If you are looking for other words or phrases, you may find these under “Further Urdu Phrases” which is more comprehensive.
There is a word document to support the audio files which you can follow as you listen, to help you remember the words or phrases.
Finally, there is a document that gives some guidance as to how best to attempt learning foreign vocabulary or phrases.
We understand that most of you will have little or no understanding of Urdu so we urge you to use these phrases for reassurance of patients only. There are some questions included that require a more advanced standard of Urdu for you to understand the answer. Please do not use these if you are a beginner.
Follow the instructions to download or listen to the phrases.
