Chaplaincy Volunteer Visitors
Chaplaincy Volunteer Visitors
The chaplaincy service is delivered by the chaplaincy team with the valuable assistance of 100 volunteers coming from a variety of faiths (and no religious faith), including Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh, working closely with the chaplaincy team by referring patients to specific chaplains as and when required. Their tasks include:
- Bed to bed ward visiting
- Accident and emergency visitors team
- Radiology visitors team
- Assisting with Muslim prayers (Jumma Salah) on a Friday
This is a very good example of people from different faith backgrounds (and no religious faith) working together towards a common goal.
The work of chaplaincy couldn’t be as successful as it is without the major contribution made by our volunteers.
Our volunteers visit patients regardless of their beliefs in order to give them time, unconditional acceptance and a listening ear.
Roman Catholic Chaplaincy Eucharistic Ministers
who visit most wards on a regular basis
There is currently only a part time RC Chaplain in the Hospitals and so Catholics are being visited by Eucharistic Ministers at which time the Blessed Sacrament will be available at the bedside. If you decide you definitely need to see a Priest you can let the Eucharistic Minister know or:
- Contact (or request a relative to contact for you) your own Parish Priest and ask him to call
- Ask a member of the ward staff to contact the Chaplaincy who will request the Parish Priest ‘covering’ to call
