Neurology
General Information
The Neurology service deals with problems of the nervous system including multiple sclerosis, epilepsy (fits), early cerebrovascular disease, dementia, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease and common symptoms requiring specialist consultation recurrent (regular) headache, dizziness, sensory (senses) disturbance and co-ordination problems.
Inpatient Services
Specialist neurological inpatient care is provided on a 20-bedded acute neurology and stroke unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary. A separate 24 bedded ward at St Luke’s hospital caters for inpatient neurological and stroke rehabilitation.
Outpatient Services
Most outpatient clinics are at St. Luke’s Hospital but there are a number of outreach clinics provided at Westwood Park Hospital, Westbourne Green Health Centre and Windhill Green Medical Practice.
The department is supported by an excellent imaging service (radiological investigations – who deal with x-rays and scans), neurophysiology investigation service, specialist nurses, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and neuropsychology.
