General Information

In addition to undertaking autopsies, Consultant Histopathologists examine tissue (histology) and cells (cytology) removed from patients during operations and at clinic. Examination of the tissue structures allows them to decide whether abnormalities are present and what affect the disease will have on the patient.

The mortuary is a facility where bodies are stored awaiting collection by funeral directors, or pending post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death. A viewing facility is available where relatives may say their goodbyes in a quiet and dignified manner.
