Nurse-led services:

These services are delivered by a team of graduate nurse practitioners, and the nurse-led fracture review service was the first one of its kind in the UK and has led the field in developing this type of service in the fracture clinic.

The Plaster room:

The paster room has a very highly qualified team of staff who have also led the way with research through publication and the teaching of a new casting technique called focused rigidity casting which is now being used throughout the UK.  Staff from this department as part of a national team of educators, have taught this technique throughout the UK.

Education:

The department is also seen as a national provider of quality education in orthopaedics and casting and provides training for the BOA (British OrthopaedicAssociation) National Casting Certificate for Nursing and technical staff in the UK and holds day courses for specialist registrars in casting in order to meet the SAC (Specialist Advisory Committee) requirements for training.

The department also provides specialist education to foundation trust staff and has run short courses and study days for accident and emergency and ward staff.
