August 18th, 2017Two local lads who are students on Bradford’s Project Search have achieved a triple medal success at the Special Olympics. Neil Hartley, 19, from Eccleshill and Aidan Knights, 20, from Keighley are celebrating after winning a silver and two bronze medals at the UK’s largest multi-sports event for athletes with intellectual disabilities. They are both part of the Project Search scheme, based at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, to help Bradford students with learning disabilities find employment through work experience placements and classroom teaching.
August 18th, 2017Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust’s new gym manager is going for gold! Carla Burkitt has just started work at the fitness centre at Bradford Royal Infirmary, which features a gym, health studio and access to personal training services. And the 27-year-old is certainly qualified to take on the role, as she’s the current England women’s karate team captain.
August 14th, 2017A Keighley woman is pounding the pavements in training for a marathon to raise money for the local hospital renal unit that has treated her mum. Carly Barrett, whose mum is kidney transplant patient Carole Davidson, is running the York Marathon in October to raise money for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s renal unit.
August 10th, 2017The first patients have moved into our new state-of-the-art intensive care unit (ICU) and are now comfortably settled in and being cared for. A lot of hard work that has gone into this project - from the initial planning all the way through to the transfer of patients on 31 July and 1 August.
August 7th, 2017Elvis Presley, The Shadows and Roy Orbison were topping the music charts, Mary Quant and Twiggy were fashion icons and the NHS was in its infancy when Shirley Hannan began her career in the ‘Swinging Sixties.’ Now, 57 years later, colleagues have said farewell to Shirley who has retired as one of the longest-serving members of staff at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. A special presentation was made to the 72-year-old on her final day as assistant general manager for non-clinical support services, based at St Luke’s Hospital.
August 3rd, 2017We have been made aware of bogus text messages being sent to patients telling them that if they do not turn up for a specified appointment, they will be charged £150. This is a widespread problem affecting the NHS and it is possible some of our patients may receive such a message. If you are in any doubt about the authenticity of a message, please call our Central Patient Booking Service on 01274 274274.
August 1st, 2017In light of recent events in respect of the Grenfell Tower disaster, we took advice in June from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) experts. They advised at that time that there were no NHS facilities in West Yorkshire which required intervention and inspection by the local Fire and Rescue Service.
July 21st, 2017Bradford Royal Infirmary’s new £28 million, state-of-the-art wing has continued to win plaudits – this time scooping a design award. The new wing, part of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was recognised with the top honour at the Local Authority Building Control awards for West Yorkshire at Wakefield Unity Works.
July 21st, 2017A new state-of-the-art centre, which offers the very latest in imaging technology, is playing a leading role in eye health in Bradford. The Bradford Macula Centre, part of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is based on Trinity Road, Bradford, near to St. Luke’s Hospital, and features the most sophisticated scanning equipment capable of detecting a number of eye conditions.
July 11th, 2017An NHS manager and an opthalmologist from Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT) have won a top award after seeing off 91 other entrants. Consultant Ophthalmologist, Dr Rachel Pilling, and Deputy Head of Patient Access, Daniel Wadsworth, have been crowned the winners of the very first Sir Peter Carr Award after they impressed judges with their project idea: ‘15 Seconds – 30 Minutes’.
