3G:From the Cradle to the Grave
Schools involvement
Since September 2005 we have been working with a number of sixth formers from local high schools focussing on health priorities of the different generations. The total Bradford sixth form population numbers approximately 3,000 and at 16 years and over they are eligible for membership of the Foundation Trust. This pilot project is a unique membership development initiative. Through the project we want to;
- encourage young people to become more informed Members of the Foundation Trust and for them to understand what this means for the provision of health care within Bradford
- encourage awareness of the health priorities affecting different generations
- encourage public and patient membership of the Foundation Trust from our youngest target age group, their peers, parents and grandparents
The project was officially launched by the Chairman of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust during a hugely successful High School Health Fair which featured internal and external exhibitors from across a number of departments and organisations. All High Schools within the area were invited to the Health Fair. More than 200 people attended the event and the initial feedback indicates that the event was a huge success. One of the teachers wrote and told us that “..The students have been coming in buzzing… they say a big THANK YOU, as a few of them have now identified what they want to aim for as a career, and it wasn't something they would have even considered before. They are working with fresh motivation this morning!”
Other activities involving young people from across the district are being planned with the High School Health Fair set to become a regular annual item.
