Bradford IVF Unit Celebrates 10th Anniversary

December 01, 2010

Bradford babies will gather this weekend to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the unit which was set up to help their parents conceive.

Around 100 children born as a result of In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) during the last three years and their families will gather with experts from the Bradford Royal Infirmary’s Reproductive Medicine Unit to toast its success.

Consultant Ian Beck said: “Celebrating the tenth anniversary of the unit is an important milestone. The party is a testament to the hard work and enthusiasm of the team at the BRI. It will be a pleasure to see patients and their families celebrating together with staff. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have been able to help.”

The party will take place at the ante-natal clinic reception area on the ground floor of the Women's and Newborn Unit this Sunday (November 28) from 2pm to 4pm.

Entertainment will be provided by children’s entertainer and magician, Colonel Custard, and there will be afternoon tea.

BRI Consultants Ian Beck and Virginia Beckett, along with Unit Administrator Lidia Gallucci, will be there as well as the unit's Nurses, Sisters Elizabeth Thornton, Peta Harrison and Victoria Rawnsley.  Anne Balson, who was the unit's Senior Nurse for seven years will also be attending.

The BRI’s Reproductive Medicine Unit has helped to create approximately 500 babies since it was established by Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 1990.

The unit provides help to families from the Bradford and Airedale area including Ilkley, Addingham and Keighley.
