Bradford Grammar School donate £4,000 to BRI Neonatal Unit

July 05, 2011

Bradford Grammar School has presented matron, Sarah Spzara, with a cheque for £4,000 for the Bradford Royal Infirmary’s neonatal unit.

The money was raised by the Netball Parents’ Association and the whole of last year’s First Form.  The Netball Parents’ Association gave £1,000 from money raised at this year’s Christmas Fair and £3,000 was raised through a 12 mile sponsored walk over the moor from Bradford Grammar School to Ilkley.

The money will be paid into a Trust Fund that buys larger pieces of equipment for the hospital’s neonatal unit.  The money raised will be partly used to buy two new warming mattresses called "cot warmers" that are designed to heat the bassinette cots that premature babies are nursed in.  The donation will completely buy the two mattresses.

Matron Sarah Szpara, who collected the cheque on behalf of the neonatal unit said: "It's great to receive such an amazing amount of money from Bradford Grammar School and, on behalf of the neonatal unit, I'd like to thank everyone involved for their hard-earned fundraising efforts.

“We do rely on donations to buy pieces of equipment that enhance the care that we can provide for the babies, and on behalf of the unit, we really cannot thank you enough for your donation.”

Pupils from the school will visit the BRI in September to see the equipment they have bought in use.
